This training explains how to calculate and apply a Job Ticket Hour (JTH) pay increase when a technician qualifies for a higher pay level (Level 2 or Level 3). Instead of changing each job, the increase is added as a payroll adjustment (bonus) so it is accurate, trackable, and auditable.
The following JTH $ amounts are SAMPLES...you company may vary
| Base Pay User Rate Totals | Higher JTH total - Base Pay | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| $24 X 29.5 = $708.00 | No Bonus since this is their Base Pay | Level 1 $708 (no adjustment needed) |
| $25 x 29.5 = $737.50 | $737.50 - $708 = $29.50 | Level 2 $29.50 |
| $26 x 29.5 = $767.00 | $767 - $708 = $59.00 | Level 3 $59.00 |
1. Understand the Base Pay Setup
Technicians are paid based on Job Ticket Hours (estimated time), not revenue.
The User Rate Per Hour represents the technician’s JTH pay rate.
In this example:
Technician: Holly Moore
Base JTH rate: $24 per JTH
Pay period: January 4–10
Total estimated time worked: 29.5 JTH
2. Verify Weekly Estimated Time
Total JTH for the week: 29.5 hours
⚠️ Important:
Even if revenue is high, pay is calculated only on JTH, not job revenue.
Training jobs may shift JTH payout to the trainer instead of the trainee.
3. Confirm Base Pay Calculation
Base Pay Formula:
$24 × 29.5 = $708.00
This amount is automatically calculated by the system based on the user rate.
If no level increase applies, no bonus is added.
4. Calculate Level 2 and Level 3 Pay
Instead of changing each job, calculate the difference and apply it as a bonus.
Level 2 ( $25 per JTH )
$25 × 29.5 = $737.50
$737.50 − $708.00 = $29.50 bonus
Level 3 ( $26 per JTH )
$26 × 29.5 = $767.00
$767.00 − $708.00 = $59.00 bonus
5. Add the Bonus as a Payroll Adjustment
Go to Payroll → Adjustments
Select the technician
Add a Bonus
Apply it on the last day of the pay period (Friday)
Enter the calculated bonus amount:
Level 2 bonus: $29.50
Level 3 bonus: $59.00
Save and continue
✅ Result:
Base pay remains intact
Bonus is clearly tracked
No job records are altered
6. Why Adjustments Are Used (Best Practice)
Allows easy tracking of:
How often bonuses are given
Which technicians reached higher levels
You can search by technician name and see:
Bonus history
Dates applied
Frequency of level increases
Keeps payroll clean and auditable
7. Final Payroll Breakdown View
Once saved, payroll will show:
Base JTH pay
Bonus (Level increase)
Tips (broken down by customer)
Mileage reimbursement (if applicable)
Trainer pay (if applicable)
Notes
Always calculate bonuses using estimated time (JTH), not revenue.
Never adjust individual jobs for level increases.
Bonuses should always be applied as payroll adjustments.
This method keeps payroll accurate, consistent, and easy to audit.
