This training explains how to increase a technician’s percentage-based pay when they qualify for a higher level (Level 2 or Level 3) without editing individual jobs. Instead, the increase is calculated as a payroll bonus adjustment, ensuring accuracy, speed, and clean tracking.
The following Percentage amounts are SAMPLES...you company may vary
| Base Pay User Rate Totals | Higher JTH total - Base Pay | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| $1,775 x 0.42 = $745.50 | No Bonus since this is their Base Pay | Level 1 $708 (no adjustment needed) |
| $1,775 x 0.44 = $781 | $781 - $745.50 = $35.50 | Level 2 $35.50 |
| $1,775 x 0.46 = $816.50 | $816.50 - $745.50 = $71.00 | Level 3 $71.00 |
Step 1: Confirm the Technician’s Base Percentage
Check the technician’s User Profile.
The base percentage (example: 42%) is the minimum guaranteed payout.
This percentage should always be the lowest level they can earn.
Step 2: Review Weekly Job Payout
Identify the pay period (example: January 4–10).
Review total job payouts for the technician.
Example:
Total paid at base percentage: $745.50
This amount already reflects the base percentage payout.
Step 3: Calculate Total Revenue Worked
To find the total revenue:
Base payout ÷ Base percentage
$745.50 ÷ 0.42 = $1,775.00 total revenue
This number is required to calculate higher percentage levels.
Step 4: Calculate the Higher Percentage Total
Example percentage levels:
Level 2 (44%)
$1,775 × 44% = $781.00
Level 3 (46%)
$1,775 × 46% = $816.50
Step 5: Calculate the Bonus Amount
Subtract the base payout from the higher percentage payout:
Level 2 bonus:
$781.00 − $745.50 = $35.50
Level 3 bonus:
$816.50 − $745.50 = $71.00
This difference is the bonus amount.
Step 6: Add the Bonus as a Payroll Adjustment
Go to Payroll → Adjustments
Create a New Adjustment
Type: Bonus
Date: Last day of the pay period
Amount: Calculated bonus
Save
✅ The bonus:
Appears as a separate line item
Is searchable and trackable
Keeps job payouts untouched
Key Rule to Remember
Always keep the lowest percentage in the technician’s user profile.
All higher pay levels should be added as bonuses, not job edits.
